We reap and sow in the past seventy years. We have been in the same boat during the last half century. On the morning of October 13th, upon celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of our university and the Double-ninth Day, a traditional festival to show respect for the grey-haired, we gathered in the newly established “Home-of-Clouds Tower” and hosted a congratulatory event, which has been held for consecutive five years, upon the golden jubilee of some retired staffs. Weng Peifen, deputy Party Secretary of SUEP, attended the ceremony and addressed. The golden couples, representatives of the retired staffs, Party secretaries of all the colleges and some students showed up in the event, which was hosted by Liu Jierong and Cheng Lin.
Weng expressed his heartfelt blessings and season greetings to all the retired workers of this university on this Day for Seniors Citizens and all the staffs for the contribution they have spared no pains to make generation by generation during the past seven decades. He briefed the remarkable achievements we have achieved steadily, rapidly and favorably in different fields during the period of the National 13th Five-year Plan. He said that every step we have made forward is the result of the joined efforts of all the faculties of SUEP since its founding. Special thanks must be given to all the retired staffs of this university because they devoted all their prime time to the university, which we will remember forever. The year 2021 is the first year to start the new journey to build up a modern socialist power in all respects and the first year to practice the National 14th Five-year Plan. Now we gather here gleefully to celebrate the centennial anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of our university. We sincerely hope that all the retired staffs will continue to contribute themselves to the university while we are focusing on the new strategies and goals, facilitating the transformative development and trying to write a new chapter in this new era.
Weng stressed that we gathered here this day to hold a golden jubilee for some retired staffs to integrate their happy life with the centennial anniversary of the founding of CPC and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the university, which is intended to convey our love for the Party, the country, the university and our homes. It is of great significance because it is not only an event for the university to show her concern to the retired staffs but a practice of the virtues highly valued by traditional Chinese culture to respect and care for the senior citizens. The university promised that she will put a premium on the life of the retired staffs so that they will live a happier life with a stronger sense of gain, a stronger sense of security and a stronger sense of belonging.
Through the seventy decades we have been playing the stringed music while striving to build up our career. The torch has been relayed generation by generation so that we have a harvest now. By sharing their own working experiences at the university, Professor Wang Qijie, Chen Fatang, and Geng Xinmin, representatives of the retired staffs, said that they were amazed at the achievements the university has achieved in recent years. They expressed their beautiful wishes to the 70th anniversary of the founding of the university and the blueprint made for the future.
Thanks to the great age! The beautiful life is believed to go on. To the accompaniment of light music the golden jubilee commenced. Seven golden couples walked hand in hand to the stage in turn. With the blessings from all present, Weng presented them with the pictures in memory of their golden wedding. Party secretaries of some concerned colleges offered them bundles of flowers. Rain or shine, these golden couples survived 50 years with joint efforts. At the request of all present, they expressed their feelings and shared their happiness and sweetness.
At the end of the event, all the staffs and students shared joyfully the cakes exclusively ordered for the golden couples.
