To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of SUEP, to publicize the history of our university and pass on the university spirit, we held the opening ceremony of the University History Museum on Lin’gang Campus on October 15th. Among the participants there are Li Mingfu, Party Secretary of SUEP, Li Hexing, president and deputy Party Secretary of the university, Weng Beifen, deputy Party Secretary of the university, three vice presidents (Feng Jinzhang, Fu Yang and Huang Dongmei), Chief Accountant Zhang Chuan, Yin Ming, a standing member of CPC Committee and head of the Publicity Department of Shanghai Maritime University, Zhu Chengshi, a standing member of CPC Committee and head of the Publicity Department of Shanghai Dianji University, Ning Bo, curator of the Archives and the History Museum of Shanghai Oceanic University, Qu Linlin, vice director of the Publicity Department of the CPC Committee of Shanghai Oceanic University, and Sang Zheng, director of the Publicity Department of Shanghai Jianqiao University. Some executives, members of the university art troupe, teaching staffs and students were invited to attend the ceremony.
Li Mingfu addressed at the ceremony. At first he expressed heartfelt gratitude to the administrators, colleagues and friends who have been giving support to the development of our university as well as all the constructors of the University History Museum. He said that as incarnation of the university spirit, education philosophy, and campus culture, the University History Museum will play an important part in publicizing the history and culture of our university. With its completion in due course, the University History Museum will not only preserve the glorious history and vicissitudes of our university but record the brilliant chapters we have been writing together with all those dealing in the industry of electric power since 1949.
He stressed that the reconstruction of the University History Musuem is intended to explicate the soul of SUEP and her university spirit, to bolster up the confidence of all the people from SUEP and facilitate the development of SUEP so that it can be a platform to display the achievements the university has achieved up till today and enrich the minds of all the faculty and students; a link to keep all the alumni close; and an audio-visual classroom to spread the university history and educate talents. On this basis, all the faculty and students will plunge themselves into the reform in the new era so that the University History Museum will become the factual landmark in the cultural sense and the source of inspiration.
The construction of the new University History Museum lasted more than one year, whose total building area amounts to 500 square meters or so. The museum is divided into four sections in terms of theme: Prelude Hall, History Corridor, Hall of SUEP Today, and Prologue Hall. It begins with the origin of the industry of electric power in China along with the developmental history of the university as the cardinal line and the achievements achieved in the educational cause as a framework. The history of our university is related veritably, vividly, in depth and from different perspectives via pictures, words, objects, audios and videos. From them we can see all the achievements our university has achieved during the past seven decades in talent training, scientific research, social service, cultural inheritance and international exchange. These achievements highlight the contributions our university has made in different periods to the development of electric power and national energy, to the society and to the national economy. From each picture, each physical goods, and each set of data we can feel the unique spirit of craftsmanship in the guys from SUEP.
The opening of the university history museum is not only a special gift presented to the 70th anniversary of the founding of SUEP but a big event to pay homage to the forerunners, inherit the spirit of SUEP and record the history of struggle. Meanwhile it is a concrete practice to spread the history of the Party on the campus. We will take the opportunity to make full use of the relevant resources and pass on the university spirit to the later-comers.
