September is a golden fruitful season with the fragrance of osmanthus smelled in the air. These days the beautiful Lin’gang Campus of SUEP has been looking very busy. On the morning of September 18th, the welcome ceremony for Class 2021 was held at this university. Among the attendees there were the leaders of this university including Li Mingfu, Li Hexing, Weng Peifen, Feng Jinzhang, Fu Yang and Zhang Chuan, heads of all the colleges, executives of the departments, representatives of the teaching staffs and all the freshmen’s supervisors. Weng Peifen, deputy Party Secretary, hosted the event. After the national flag was hoisted to the mast amidst the solemn atmosphere, the welcome ceremony began.
Professor Min Yulin from the College of Environment and Chemical Engineering suggested that all the freshmen try to broaden their vision, update their mentalities, bend their heads into academic studies, and put theory into practice so that they won’t waste their precious youthful days and betray the great times. He added that only in this way will they be able to better themselves
And then, a few undergraduates such as Hao Runqing(College of Foreign Languages) , Deng Chongyan(College of Electric Engineering) and Zhao Jiale(College of Electronics and Information Engineering), and two graduates(Shao Xinyi from College of Electric Power Engineering and Feng Kang from College of Energy and Mechanical Engineering) took turns to share their experiences in academic studies, in their work dealing with students, in the army and in the scientific research. They encouraged that all the freshmen strive for their dreams and make them come true because only by constant hard work will they show the true color of their youths.
Jin Yiyi, delegate from the College of Economics and Management, said that as a freshman entering into this university upon the 70th anniversary of the founding of SUEP, she will bear in mind the university motto “Patriotism, Diligence, Pragmatism and Enterprise”, strive strenuously for self-improvement and try to be a dreamer with lofty ideals in the New Era.
Ming Jun, a student from the College of International Education, claimed that he crossed the oceans because he couldn’t wait to start his life at this university. He said that he will study hard, make full use of time, and keep moving forward so that someday he will be competent to do something for the international exchange and the industrial development of both China and his mother country.
At the ceremony, Li Mingfu presented the certificates of appointment to the freshmen’s supervisors. They are tour guides, assistants, teachers and friends to these young people. They will help all the students of Class 2021 evolve into talents with lofty ideals, professional skills and into national pillars with a strong sense of mission.
Li and other administrators bore the university badge for some representatives of Class 2021. Their birthday coincides with the anniversary of SUEP, which falls on October 15th. With a special bond with the university and as a new generation of SUEP, they will carry on the university spirit of SUEP in the ensuing years. Subsequently, all the freshmen rose to adorn themselves solemnly with the university badges. From that moment on, they will destined to bond with SUEP and bear her mint mark through their lives.
The flag is the emblem of the university, which embodies the dream all faculty and students of SUEP have been striving for and the mission have been undertaking generation by generation.
Li Mingfu, Party Secretary of SUEP, took the university flag from the national flag guards and handed it over to the representative of Class 2021 with good hopes placed on them. And then, all the freshmen made solemn vow under the university flag.
Finally President Li Hexing addressed and extended warm welcome to Class 2021 on behalf of the university. He expressed four wishes for their impending university life. Firstly, they should undertake the mission, adhere to their initial aspirations, take up the responsibilities and devote themselves to the country. Secondly, they should try to enhance their aptitude in various aspects, adhere to the virtues highly valued in traditional Chinese culture and attach much importance to their morality education sothat they will develop themselves into talents with great value, wisdom, high EQ and positive attitude toward life. Thirdly, they should try to broad their ken and seek the truth so that they will arm themselves with competence and professional skills. While gaining wit, courage and strength continuously to march forward, they should take the initiative to integrate their pursuit of truth with their character so that they will be able to write a new chapter for this university.
Fourthly, they must be down-to-earth, practical and hardworking. They should exhaust their potentials in creativity and innovation and grit with lofty goals. They are hoped to strengthen their teamwork and develop their Adversity Quotient. As young people, they should start their journey with the propulsion of innovation. They should seek power from their struggle. They should devote themselves to the society with contribution-making as the background of their growth.
In the end President Li urged that all the freshmen should take up the responsibilities in the New Era, set sail to pursue their dreams, plunge themselves into their academic studies so that they will be able to create a brighter future at this university.
The torch has been relayed for seventy years odd and now we are to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the university. We will go on to set sail to chase the dream at this university. Welcome, Class 2021! Now your bright future is in sight.
