Recently the results of the 6th National University Art Performance Tournament were announced, which is sponsored by the Ministry of Education. Organized by the College of Art and Humanities, together with some students from the art troupes of this university, both part-time and full-time art instructors have won 1 second prize at the state level, 1 First Prize,12 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes at the municipal level. Meanwhile our university has been conferred Outstanding Organization Award for Shanghai Colleges and Universities. We have achieved a breakthrough with all the seven art troupes awarded prizes and 4 Second Prizes for the teachers’ theses.

The National University Art Performance Tournament is held every three years, which is the largest-scaled and the most influential art festival for university students. This art performance tournament is also the first great show since the General Offices of CPC and the State Council issued the official document Opinions on How to Strengthen and Improve Aesthetic Educations in Schools in a New Era. About 6,800 students from 198 universities and 264 delegations participated in the tournament. They are from 31 provinces and municipalities, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, Hong Kong, and Macao Special Administrative Region. With their efforts the teachers and students of our university have displayed the spirit embodied in the motto “patriotism, diligence, pragmatism and enterprise”. In 2019 they started the training programs. In 2020 they actively organized to run for competitions. In 2021 they reaped what they sowed. With the normalization of the Pandemic prevention and control, the teacher and students from our university joined efforts to overcome all the difficulties and made full use of the summer and winter vacation. They trained online and offline. Now they have fulfilled the tasks as expected. All the selected art works covered various forms of art such as drama, short video, painting, photography, calligraphy, instrumental music, folk music, chorus and dance. Among them the painting “Rhythm” was awarded Second Prize at the state level and First Prize at the municipal level. Along with other 11 artworks the drama “Loyal to Our Motherland” was conferred the Second Prize. As well as two artworks, the ensemble Red Blossoms over the Mountains played with western musical instruments won the Third Prize at the Municipal level. Xu Jing and three of her colleagues were awarded the Second Prize respectively at the municipal level as role models in Renovating Aesthetic Education at Colleges and Universities. Upon celebrating the centennial anniversary of the founding of CPC (Communist Party of China) and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of SUEP (Shanghai University of Electric Power), the teachers and students presented different art forms to salute to their motherland and Alma Mater.

Since a long time ago the Party Committee of this university has attached much importance to aesthetic education, which resulted in the establishment of the College of Art and Humanities with the intention tointensify aesthetic education among the students. It is believed that with the establishment of the College of Art and Humanities the students’ artistic aptitude will be improved, their artistic taste will be developed, and the high quality of the art troupes of our university will be guaranteed too. What’s more, as the art teachers are encouraged to conduct a multidimensional explorative research in theories and put them into practice, they will help the students make greater achievements in their artistic practice. While designing the training programs for the National Art Performance Tournament, the teachers and students strived to build up a brand with some excellent art works which belongs only to our university. From the very beginning they introduced the conception “Three-wide education” into their training programs  to cultivate versatile talents with full development in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor education.
