On the afternoon of November 3rd, the opening ceremony of the 2021 and the Fifth Belt and Road Initiative National Energy and Power Talents Senior Training Course was held via ZOOM and off the line at the same time in Room 407, Mingli Building, Yangpu Campus. Among those international friends who attended the ceremony there are more than 60 managerial staffs, government officials, experts and scholars dealing in the energy and power industry from eight countries such as Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Uganda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe. Together with concerned executives, staffs and some chosen international students, Ge Jingyi, Deputy Director of the International Exchange Office, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, showed up at the ceremony, which was presided by Zeng Fenyu, Director of the International Exchange Office of this university.
Li Hexing, president and deputy Party secretary of the Committee of SUEP, addressed at the meeting. First of all, he extended a warm welcome to the managerial staffs and distinguished guests to attend the ceremony of the senior seminar. Li Hexing reviewed the developmental history of our university, the measures we have taken to answer the call of the Belt and Road Initiative and the achievements we have achieved in training the B & R international energy and electricity talents. He pointed out that the seminar was intended to strengthen the mutual understanding of the present situation of the electricity and (new) energy industry between the Belt-and-Road Initiative countries and to strengthen the international exchanges in the industries of electric power and new energy so that the international exchanges and cooperation in the power energy technology and management would be enhanced.
The distinguished guests expressed their opinions one after another. Huang Xiaogang, General Manager of CLP Yongxin Operation Co., Ltd. (Vietnam), showed great appreciation for the contributions we have made in training professionals oriented to the industry of energy and electricity and in strengthening cooperation in the domains of energy and power between the Belt-and-Road Initiative Countries. Via video he also shared his experience of training trainees of operation and maintenance project in 2016 at this university and the status quo of his company and their achievements. Ida Nuryatin Finahari, minister of Electricity Development, Ministry of Energy and Minerals, Indonesia Power Authority, made an introduction of the industrial development of energy and electricity in Indonesia and offered the possibilities of investment and cooperation in the future. Junus Widjaja, general manager of Renano Power Co. Ltd, Indonesia, expressed his desire to take this opportunity to seek cooperation with other countries in industrial integration and development. Liang Baihua, secretary of the Party Branch and general manager of Gansu Energy Investment Co., Ltd. in Pakistan, China Power Construction Group, reviewed the cooperation between his company and our university. He elaborated the Qasim Port Coal Power Station in Pakistan, a key project signed by the delegates of the Chinese government and the Pakistani government. He eagerly looked forward to further cooperation with our university in the industry of electric power and talent training in the near future. Engr. Shuaibu USMAN, executive director and CEO, Electricity Management Services Authority of Nigeria (EMSA), stressed the importance they attach to electric security. He hoped that this seminar would have a positive impact on its institutional work and that the cooperation with China and other countries would be further strengthened. Andualem Siae, an executive officer of the Planning Department, National Electricity Corporation of Ethiopia, Eng. Peter Kimmea, general manager of the Department of Technical Standards of National Grid-Kenya, Eng. Oola Jimmy Noel Sand, senior project manager of Rural Electrification Agency, Ministry of Energy and Minerals of Uganda, and Anesu Chinomona, Technical Director of Wangi Power Supply Company, Zimbabwe, respectively introduced their country's energy development, goals and opportunities. They hope that by way of this seminar, they will deepen their understanding of the development of energy and power industries in other countries and seek more exchanges and cooperation with China and other Belt and Road Initiative countries.
Some students who have taken the training sessions in 2016, 2017 and 2019 were also invited to attend the ceremony. Altaf Shahid, Assistant to the Director of Qasim Coal Power Plant in Pakistan, shared his training experience in the 2016 Production Preparation Training Program in China. Mullianto Gultom, chairman of Indonesia Scorinas Co. Ltd., expressed his gratitude to our university for having provided him with this platform as a member of 2017 and 2019 Senior Research Class. He presented an interpretation of his company and Indonesia's policies on energy and electricity. Eugenia Ndukwe, executive director of XEM Consulting Company in Nigeria, paid a high compliment of the workgroup for their professionalism and the volunteers for their service. He urged all the trainees to take active part in the academic studies through this Senior Seminar and make joint efforts to build a community of shared future for mankind so that win-win results would be achieved.
The Senior Seminar initiated to train energy and electric power talents for the Belt and Road Initiative countries is a positive practice of our university in response to the national policy. It introduced many interactive forms such as online international communication, discussion, report, and demonstration. Thematically, it is divided into Stylish Trainees strive for common development, Students’ Forums for Friendship Humanities Study for Cultural Exchange and Best Lectures Go with us. In the symposium exclusively for the trainees from China, Vietnam, Nigeria, Ethiopia, Pakistan and Indonesia they conducted a special online communication. With an online seminar to last 3 weeks, they will acquire a better understanding of the demand for electric power and the overall development situation of the Belt and Road Initiative countries so that they will make joint efforts to promote the international exchange and cooperation in the domains of energy and electric power.
