On November 8th, the closing ceremony of the 3rd was held on Lingang campus of this university. The ceremony was conducted simultaneously on and off the line. Among the attendees there are nearly 200 people from China, Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Indonesia. with more than 40 students and managerial staffs of the Department of International Exchange, the Office of Students’ Affairs and the College of Economics and Management, Li Hexing, deputy Party secretary and President of SUEP, and Xu Ying, General Manager of Shanghai Chenzi Culture Investment Development Co. Ltd., showed up at the closing ceremony, which was presided by Michael C. Lagaya, director of the Employment Centre of Batangas University, Philippines.
Li addressed his sincere gratitude to Batangas University of the Philippines, the organizer of this competition, the teams running for the competition and concerned staffs for their support. He was pleased to see that the competition has granted the students from all over the world an opportunity to demonstrate their marvelous capabilities in business operations and innovation, and to display their positive attitudes, friendliness and spirit of companionship. It has also strengthened the cooperation of universities from various countries in the discipline of electric power. It is a contest closely related to the civilization made from the industry of energy and electric power. The competition sponsored by Batangas University of the Philippines has provided much useful experience for further cooperation between the involved universities in other fields. Thus he looks forward to more cooperation in more projects.
In his speech, Tirso A Ronquillo, president of Batangas University of the Philippines, extended his warm congratulations on the successful conclusion of this competition and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the universities at home and abroad and enterprises for their staunch support and active participation. He said that the academic studies are beyond national borders, so he hoped that we would make constant progress by gaining experience in this simulation competition, and establish a sounder partnership so as to promote friendly exchanges and international communication between all the concerned universities.
Xu Ying extended her warm congratulations on the success of the Third Belt and Road Initiative Energy and Electricity Business Decision Simulation Competition and expressed her beautiful wishes to the young students. The future lies in your hands and ours, but in the final analysis, it lies in yours. She believes that on this international stage, they have the competence to display their ambitions, be it in business model or in creative innovation!
An awarding ceremony was held at the same time. Among the five experts who worked as judges for the final defense of the competition, three are from CESIM, Finland and two from Batangas University of the Philippines. The final results of the teams were proportioned into fifty-fifty: the on-site performance (50%) + the online performance (50%). Certified by the letter of Veijo Kyosti, CEO of CESIM, Finland and sponsor of the competition, the team TELEPTHIC of SUEP won the championship with the score 99.7 under the joint tutorship of Zhou Bo, a teacher from the College of Electric Engineering, Cai Yiping and Zhang Kewei, two from the College of Economics and Management. The team STIMULUS from Moletova University of Sri Lanka and the team SPARTANS KRYPTONITE from Batangas University of the Philippines won the first prize respectively with the score 98.8 and 96.3.
Zhou Bo, mentor of the champion team, shared his experiences, gains and insights from coaching students to run for the competition in the past two months. Cheng Yihong, a member of the champion team from the College of Economics and Managemen, said with passion, As young people, we can change the world by seeking innovation and cooperation and breaking boundaries. So long as we make joint efforts, we will surely enjoy a brighter future.
To highlight the theme of diversity and internationalization embodied in the contest, at the request of Batangas University of the Philippines, our students displayed the brilliant traditional Chinese culture by performing traditional song and dance as well as some calligraphy and seal cutting works.
Zeng Fenyu, director of the International Exchange Office of SUEP, announced that our university will host the competition in 2022. By then our beautiful new Lingang Campus will stretch out her arms to welcome the competitors from all the concerned countries!
Atty. NOEL Alberto. S. OMANDAP, vice president of Batangas University of the Philippines made a concluding speech, saying that the wonderful performance of the contesters in the competition must be attributed to the ceaseless efforts of all team members and their spirit of exploration and innovation; thanks must be given to the full support and planning of the mentors and to the team members’ enthusiasm, concerted efforts and full preparation. He hopes that more university students from different countries will participate it, share their expertise and experience, establish a longstanding friendship and show their charming personalities.
The Belt-and-Road Initiative International Energy and Power Business Decision Simulation Competition focuses on the Collegiate Alliance of B & R Initiative Countries and Power Industry-University-Research Alliance of Belt & Road Initiative Countries , which were initiated by our university in 2018. It is a new mode for universities and enterprises at home and abroad to join efforts to seek international industry-university-research cooperation in the domains of energy and electricity.
Full support has been given to the competition by the Philippine National Commission on Higher Education. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the competition had to be conducted online from the preparatory work to the closing ceremony. To ensure its success, a transnational organizing committee was established. With the guidance of the International Communication Office and the College of Economics and Management of our university, Batangas University of the Philippines made full preparations for each phase of the competition. For more than two months they have been helping the university coordinate with competitors and mentors and thus made it possible to conduct online meetings regularly to discuss the details of the competition, which eventually was held successfully by a foreign university for the first time with the aid of our university. Nearly 400 contesters of seven universities from six countries ran for the competition, which has expanded the international influence of our university in these countries.
