On November 13, the forum Global Energy Internet focusing on training internationalized talents with the Second Annual Meeting of China Energy Foreign Language Alliance (SAMCEFLA) was held on the cloud. Famous experts, scholars and business representatives from the universities all over the country gathered to discuss and explore how to train internationalized talents with a good command of foreign languages in domestic universities with energy and power as their dominant disciplines.
Huang Dongmei, vice president of SUEP, addressed on behalf of the university and extended her gratitude to all for their gathering on the cloud to discuss the program of training internationalized talents with the advantage of acquiring foreign languages. Meanwhile she introduced to all the educational philosophy of Shanghai University of Electric Power.
The forum was co-sponsored by the Foreign Languages Association of Chinese Energy, the College of Foreign Languages of this university and the Energy and Power Translation and Teaching Research Academy affiliated to the World Union for Translation Education (WITTA). It was also aided by the Commercial Press and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press. Professor Pan Weimin, dean of the College of Foreign Languages, hosted the opening ceremony.
The keynote speeches were delivered respectively by Professor Yuan Sen from Xi'an University of Petroleum, Professor Chang Joon-Bong from China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Professor Zhao Dequan of this university and Professor Yu Yanying from Xi'an University of Petroleum.
Professor Cai Jigang of Fudan University argued that new disciplines and new majors in the future will be characterized by cross-border and integration, which provides a new perspective for the colleges and universities with the disciplines of energy as their cornerstone to conduct their ESP teaching in the future.
Professor Mao Haoran from China University of Petroleum (East China) shared his experience in detail from the perspective of management in developing the talents’ mentality with energy academic English and the hot topics of common concern in some other colleges and universities.
From the perspective of the reform launched in promoting the ideological education in foreign language courses, Professor Pan Weimin shared the experience gained in our constructive attempts to open the courses such as Light of Silk Road and English on Energy and Electric Power in light of the disciplinary characteristics of our university, to train outstanding talents with a good command of foreign languages who can relate the stories of China well and spread Chinese culture well and to do their parts to build up Global Energy Internet.
Professor Zhao Xiufeng from China University of Petroleum (Beijing) introduced to all their new English education system with the integration of the university education at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the interplay of the specialty and all-round education, and the combination of energy and humanities, which has left everybody a deep impression.
Yuan Sen, a professor from Xi'an University of Petroleum, suggested that the ESP curriculum system should be based on the university’s major disciplines. He shared the measures taken and the achievements achieved in opening courses for English majors oriented to the petroleum industry and in deepening the reform of specific and comprehensive disciplines.
As one of foreign language teaching schools, the conceptual teaching method emerged early this century. Professor Yang Ruiying from Xi'an Jiaotong University applied it to the teaching of academic English texts, which is of great inspiration to all in teaching academic English on energy.
Mr. Zhang Jing, CEO of TMXMALL, a local information technology company, presented his proposal on how to strengthen the industry-university-enterprise cooperation and help universities to train advanced translators and interpreters.
Wang Huashu, an associate professor from Beijing International Studies University, expounded his pondering over the construction of informationalized foreign language teaching based on intelligent teaching by highlighting the uniqueness in teaching energy courses in foreign languages as a catalyst to deepen the corresponding reform.
Centering on the in-depth integration and the construction of translation base with the joint efforts of universities and enterprises, Zuo Renjun, general manager of LocaTran Co. Ltd., made an analysis of the part language service enterprises play in helping the universities train translators and interpreters and in the development of language service industry.
When it came to the educational philosophy, Chang Joon-Bong, dean of the College of Foreign languages, China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Jia Peipei, deputy director of the Department of Foreign languages, China University of Mining and Technology (Beijing), and Feng Weilan, deputy dean of the College of foreign languages of our university, demonstrated respectively their achievements achieved up till now.
The forum is aimed to explore how to train internationalized talents in the context of Global Energy Internet, which is believed to have a profound influence upon the improvement of foreign language teaching in the universities with energy as their dominant discipline in the future.
With the agreement reached by the Standing Council, the Third Annual Meeting of the China Energy and Foreign language Alliance will be held at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) in 2023.
