December 13, 2021 is the eighth National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims. In memory of the victims of the Nanjing Massacre and of the revolutionary martyrs and national heroes who sacrificed their lives during the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, also to express the desires of the faculty and students to do their parts to the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation, the Division of Armed Forces, the Department of Publicity, the Department of Student Affairs and other concerned departments co-hosted some events on Lin’gang Campus with the theme Remember History and Cherish Peace upon the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims.

Echo the National Mourning with a Solemn Mast-hoisting Ceremony

At 7: 30 a.m. on December 13th, basking in the morning sun, the members of the university national flag squad made vigorous strides and held a mast-hoisting ceremony. With the national flag hoisted slowly, all the members of the squad bowed to pay homage to the deceased in silence and tribute to the heroes and martyrs. We know quite well that the great age in which we’re living comes not easy. Without the sacrifices made by countless heroes and martyrs of previous generations our present well-being would have been impossible.

Relate the Tragic History with a Picture Exhibition of Nanjing Massacre

To help the faculty and students acquire a better knowledge of the tragic history about Nanjing Massacre, the university had 29 panels with pictures of great historical values about the Massacre placed in front of the library. The pictures are divided into six sections in terms of theme: the downfall of Nanjing, the bloody atrocities, the war of resistance against Japan, justice and punishment, historical witness, and national memorial ceremony. It is hoped that through the exhibition, the faculty and students will have a deeper understanding of that horrible history, enhance their patriotism and develop a stronger sense of responsibility.

Remember the National Humiliation and Express Beautiful Wishes on the Wall

In the passageway was erected an eye-catching curtain wall for people to express their beautiful wishes upon the National Memorial Day for Nanjing Massacre Victims. The staffs guided the faculty and students to sign their names and leave their best wishes for the world peace so that we will stay alert all the time. It is strongly believed that our country will move on steadily and go much farther in the future.

Watch the Movie Nanjing, Nanjing to Remember the Big Historical Lessons

The university had the students watch the Red movie Nanjing, Nanjing to retrospect the history and feel the deep love of every Chinese citizen for his mother country, Even in the downfall of Nanjing and when the country was downtrodden by foreign invaders, Chinese people were still convinced that the poor and weak as it was, their motherland would rise one day. By watching the movie, the students were greatly inspired and they promised that they would take history as a mirror and strive for the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.

We remember the history just to avoid the reoccurrence of the historical tragedies.  And we pay homage to the martyrs only to maintain the world peace. By hosting a series of events for the university students we try to arouse their patriotism. We hope that the younger generations will take up the responsibilities to revitalize the Chinese nation and work hard to do their parts for their country to enjoy a better future.
