On the afternoon of May 20th, Li Mingfu, Party secretary of this university, lectured with the title Knowing the Laws, Heightening Our Confidence, and Promoting Morality Education with More Practice for the High-level Development of This University through a Highly Effective Study of Party's History in Conference Room 103, Academic Center, Pudong Campus. The attendees included all the members of the university administration, middle-ranking managerial staffs, and representatives from the Party branches of the grass-roots units.
The lecture is made up of four parts as follows: “Know the Laws by Studying History, Heighten Our Confidence by Reviewing History, and Promote Morality Education by Learning History, and Practice by Referring to History. First, we should adhere to the principle of understanding historical facts and strengthen theoretical and historical thinking through study and education. We must understand why our Party survived, why Marxism is practicable in China, and why socialism with Chinese characteristics has been recognized. Only in this way will all the Party members and cadres lay a solider ideological and theoretical basis. Second, we should heighten our confidence and strengthen our historical consciousness by keeping on studying history. We must hold on to our faith in Marxism, socialism and communism with full confidence in the Chinese Dream to realize the rejuvenation of Chinese nation and in the reform policies and social development. Third, we should promote morality education by studying history. By spreading morality education, we will carry on the fine traditions, relay the revolutionary spirit, and enhance our political and moral culture so that we will have a clear idea about the political virtues, maintain the public virtues, strictly guard our individual virtues. We must strengthen the self-cultivation of the Party spirit, carry forward the Great Spirit, and continue the enterprising spirit in the Communists of previous generations, stay dauntless to struggle like true revolutionaries, and boost up our confidence to start new journeys and forge ahead into a new era. Fourth, we must keep on studying history and get ourselves involved in more social practice. Through study and education, we combine the summarized experiences, the reflected realities with our promotional work and with the solutions to existing problems. We should translate our enthusiasm and enterprising spirit triggered by the study and education into a formidable driving force to overcome various difficulties and pursue successful careers so that we can constantly create new situations during the 14th Five-Year Plan Period.
Li Mingfu stressed that by studying the history of our Party, we must give much importance to the social practice. The centenary history of the Party is imprinted with all the Party members’ initial aspirations and their arduous exploration. We must gain wit and strength, acknowledge the natural laws, bear in mind the general orientations, and strive to put the strategic guidelines in practice, hold to the ideals and faith to bond people together, promote reform and innovation to facilitate development, and translate the results of the study and education into a momentum for further development.
At present, the Party organizations of this university at all levels should take it as a fundamental political mission to study the history of the Party and implement it meticulously, steadily, firmly, and rigorously. They should help steer the vast majority of Party members and cadres to develop the study of the Party's history into a voluntary habit with Two Overall Situations in mind, locate a quasi-historical position, and strive to fulfill some accomplishments. They should use the methodology and wisdom contained in the history of the Party to constantly transform themselves, enhance their competitiveness, and carry on their work. And they should translate the achievements achieved in their studies into the moves to promote the construction of a high-level local university so that new situations will be created, new chapters will be turned, and new breakthroughs will be achieved for the university to enjoy a bright future. Only with remarkable achievements can we salute proudly the centenary anniversary of the founding of the Party and the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the university!
