On May 15th, IEEE PES (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers & Power and Energy Society) China 2020 Conference with the meeting for the establishment of Shanghai Branch was held at the Paradise Hotel of this university. During the conference co-sponsored by IEEE PES China and the College of Electric Engineering of our university, the founding ceremony of IEEE PES Shanghai Branch was held.
Among the distinguished guests there are Zhou Xiaoxin, honorary president of China Academy of Electric Power Sciences and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chen Chen, a professor from Shanghai Jiaotong University, Fu Yang, vice president of Shanghai University of Electric Power, Li Ruomei, chairman of the IEEE PES Women Workers Committee, Hua Ning, senior director of IEEE in Asia-Pacific Area, Bo Zhiqian, honorary president of IEEE PES China, Ni Ming, chairman of IEEE PES China, and Zhang Yining, secretary general. Besides, the attendees, as many as nearly 100, included heads of the committees and subcommittees of IEEE PES China as well as all the members of the IEEE PES Shanghai Branch Executive Committee.
At 9: 00 am, the inaugural meeting of IEEE PES Shanghai Branch, presided by Zhang Yining, secretary general of IEEE PES China, was officially declared open. First vice president Fu Yang addressed a welcome speech on behalf of the university and extended sincere gratitude to all the guests and IEEE PES China for their staunch support to the establishment of Shanghai Branch and to our university. And then Zhou Xiaoxin and Bo Zhiqian addressed as distinguished guests in turn. With much emotion they recalled the development of IEEE PES in China, placing great hopes on Shanghai Branch. Hua Ning, senior director of IEEE in Asia-Pacific Area, read out the statement of the establishment of Shanghai Branch, He pushed the gilt starting platform push-rod with other guests to start the establishment ceremony. Ni Ming, president of IEEE PES China, followed up to present the tablet carved with the Chinese characters equivalent to Shanghai Branch of IEEE PES China. Vice president Fu Yang and Professor Liu Dong from Shanghai Jiaotong University, respectively as the first-term chairman and co-chairman of the branch, delivered the letters of appointment for the members of the Executive Committee, and gave a report about the branch to be established and its relevant preparatory work. .
The conference culminated with presentations of utmost importance by two distinguished guests. The academician Zhou Xiaoxin made a special report entitled A Contextual Analysis of the Development of China's Energy and Power System with the Double-Carbon Targets, in which he predicted the future developmental pattern and the relevant measures in light of the double-carbon targets. Centering on the topic What We Do for Power Engineering in China, Professor Chen Chen shared his own academic experience and gave a vivid description of the industrial development of electric power in China. As vice president Fu Yang summarized in his address, the two reports are not only a reflection of the top level of China's power industry but a condensation of the deep love of all the staffs from the industry of electric power in China for their mother country.
In the afternoon the annual closed-door working meeting for IEEPES China 2020 was held with heads from all the branches and committees of IEEPES China, who reviewed and reported their work progress in 2020, and made an introduction of their plans for this year. The meeting ended up with a heated discussion, and all the attendees present put forward their suggestions on how to facilitate the development of IEEE PES China. The newly- established IEEE PES Shanghai Branch has dispatched delegates to attend the annual meeting in China.
IEEE has more than 430,000 members in more than 160 countries with PES as its second largest association, which is the largest platform for technological exchange in the domains of power and energy. In September 2020 the IEEE PES Shanghai Branch, whose area code is CH10950, was authorized to be established with the approval of the members and the Regional Committee of IEEEA MGA after a rigid verification. Vice president Fu Yang was elected the first-term chairman of the IEEE PES Shanghai Branch, and Professor Liu Dong from Shanghai Jiaotong University as co-chairman. The Secretariat of the Shanghai Branch is located in our university, and Su Xiangjing, an associate professor from the College of Electric Engineering, was appointed the secretary-general. Now there are about 180 active members, who came from more than 10 renowned enterprises and academies in the industry of power and energy in Shanghai and around.
It is believed that the establishment of IEEE PES Shanghai Branch and the success of the Annual Meeting of IEEE PES China will greatly speed up the internationalization of our university, and further strengthen the cooperation between our university and the enterprises dealing in the industry of power and energy in Shanghai and around.
