On November 6, Mr. Xin Baoan, Chairman of the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO) and President of the China Electricity Council(CEC), met with Mr. Gu Chunhua, President of Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP), at GEIDCO headquarters in Beijing. The discussions covered a wide range of topics, and the two parties reached consensus on talent development, international collaboration, capacity building, innovative research, and project promotion within the energy and power sectors.
Chairman Xin welcomed President Gu and his delegation to GEIDCO, expressing appreciation for SUEP’s continued support of GEIDCO’s initiatives. He highlighted the Global Energy Interconnection (GEI) as a major strategic concept proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, rooted in China's experience with energy and power development. This initiative provides a key solution for countries undergoing energy transitions, has been integrated into the United Nations' sustainable development framework, and has received high commendation from UN Secretary-General António Guterres and others, becoming an international consensus and call to action.
As the energy transition gains momentum worldwide, systematically summarizing experiences, best practices, and case studies from global green energy projects, and promoting pilot projects, is vital for steering the high-quality development of the energy sector. Mr. Xin noted that both parties should leverage their respective strengths to deepen practical cooperation and jointly advance the progress of GEI.
President Gu outlined SUEP’s recent achievements in curriculum development, talent cultivation, and international cooperation. He emphasized the significance of GEI as a transformative initiative benefiting humanity. Through GEIDCO’s active advocacy, this initiative has made swift progress and achieved remarkable results. As chair of the Global Energy Interconnection University Alliance, SUEP will leverage its strengths in education, research, and expertise in the energy and power fields. SUEP looks forward to working closely with GEIDCO in alliance activities, contributing to green energy transition and technological innovation.
The two parties also discussed advanced topics, such as the integration of artificial intelligence into the energy and power sectors and the development of a digital, robust and smart grid.
Prior to the meeting, President Gu and his delegation visited the Global Energy Interconnection Exhibition Hall.
Attendees included Wu Xuan, Secretary General of GEIDCO; Li Baosen, Deputy Secretary General of GEIDCO; and heads of relevant departments, along with SUEP Vice Presidents Yang Ning and Zhang Bo, and other department heads from SUEP.
