On December 5th, foreign students of our school participated in the activity of “Celebrate New Year and Experience Chinese Traditional Culture” for Foreign Students in Shanghai held by Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (SPAFFC) at the Shoubai Art in Tianzifang.
Li Shoubai, known as “Mr. Shanghai Shikumen” and the representative inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of Haipai paper-cutting, and his successor Ms. Li Shiyi , gave a brief lecture on Chinese traditional paper-cutting and demonstrated the secrets of the craft. Impressed by the inheritors’ skilled techniques, the overseas students also finished their own first paper cutting work one after another and got comments on the spot.
This activity left a deep impression on the overseas students. They all said that by experiencing the traditional Chinese craft personally, they can truly understand how extensive and profound the Chinese culture is, and will have more love for China and interest in learning Chinese culture.
