So many years have passed as the black hair grew white while the glorious history was always written quietly with chalks. To celebrate the 37th Teachers’ Day, a symposium was held on Lin’gang Campus on the morning of September 17th and quite a few excellent teachers were summoned there on their own red-letter day. Li Hexing, president and deputy Party Secretary of SUEP, and Weng Peifen, deputy Party Secretary of this university, attended the meeting along with nearly 30 teachers from different departments and colleges. Weng chaired the meeting.
The symposium introduced the theme “Sticking to the initial aspirations and undertaking the mission in education”. At first, Weng gave his condolences and extended his heartfelt blessings to all the teaching staffs of the university who work conscientiously on the frontier to educate and train talents. He said that the making of a university does not rely upon the high buildings but count on the great scholars within. Without outstanding scholars the development of a university would have been impossible. That’s why on the one hand, the university must aim high to build up a higher-level team of teaching staffs; on the other hand, all the teaching staffs should try to develop themselves into great masters in their own domains.
The teachers from different departments and colleges expressed their opinions one by one. Xu Guangxin, Party Secretary of the College of Mathematics and Physics, shared the new measures taken to strengthen the professional ethics in their college. By focusing on the intensive study and constant practice, all the teaching staffs have further enhanced their professional ethics. Zhang Kai, a teacher from the College of Computer Science, recalled to all the teachers present his efforts to combine his own teaching practice with morality education in his class. He Ping, a professor from the College of Energy and Chemical Engineering, confided to all his own innovative experience in scientific research. Centering on the theme “Dedication in Service and Contribution to a harmonious society”, Zhang Tongxin, a staff member from the Logistics Section, related the stories how hard the employees in his section work without any complaints. Cui Shiyun, a student councilor from the College of Information and Electronic Engineering, offered his own thought based on his work how to orientate the students properly via a sound framework of management infused with subtle humanistic concern.
And then all the teachers present started a heated discussion of their own teaching practices, their own experience in the scientific research and their own current situations. They put forward one after another many constructive and applicable suggestions on facilitating the development of the university during the 14th Five-year Plan Period, building up a high-level local university and deepening the educational reform in the new era. They also gave advice on the construction of a high rank of faculty, the further reform in teaching affairs and so on.
The Administration lent their ears all the time to the opinions and suggestions and made an immediate response to the questions showered by the teachers. President Li Hexing attributed all the achievements we have made during the past seven decades to the joint ceaseless efforts of all the faculty, which is believed to be ensure the university a brighter future. The year 2021 is the first one for this university to carry out the 14th Five-year Plan. It is also the first year for us to build up a high-level local university. Li reported to the teachers present what the university has been working hard on recently. He said he believes in the whole faculty, who will surely carry on the university spirit with diligence and perseverance. They are also believed to bolster their morale to strive to create a new environment and seek excellence in the near future. Meanwhile, he set forth his wishes to all the faculty. Firstly, they should try to adhere to the professional ethics, be a man of character and set a good example for the students. Secondly, they should try to influence and educate their students and train talents with their character and loyalty. Thirdly, they should develop a sense of innovation and plunge themselves into their work so that they will help the university stride on the road to scientific innovation.
Greatly inspired, all the teachers present promised that they will try to adhere to the professional ethics, concentrate on their teaching and plunge themselves into their scientific research so that they will be able to seek perfection in their teaching careers through ceaseless efforts; on the other hand, they will put all their hearts into guiding their students in all respects and continue to make contributions to help the university leap forward during the 14th Five-year Plan Period.
